K01 : DIPLOMA IN WELDING TECHNOLOGY

INTRODUCTION

This course is designed to cultivate a comprehensive understanding of welding knowledge and technology, providing practical development skills, and meeting the current diploma-level requirements of employers and other industry stakeholders.

Knowledge related to supervising welding activities, planning and acquiring materials, identifying forms and records used in welding documentation, monitoring welding inspection activities, engaging customers and third parties, organizing welding work schedules, and many more are emphasised on students.

During this course, students will experience various techniques on how to inspect and validate welding products according to codes and standard requirements.

Upon completion and passing all course assessments, students will be awarded the Diploma in Welding Technology from the Department of Human Resources, as well as Level 4 Certification from the Department of Skills Development under the Ministry of Human Resources. The preparation of this course will provide opportunities for students to become welding supervisors, Welding QC Personnel, Welding Technicians, Welding Instructors, or Welding Inspectors. Students can also pursue their studies at higher levels in colleges and universities.

 

GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Malaysian citizenship
  • Not exceeding 35 years of age
  • Meeting the specific requirements of the course (please refer to the requirements of each course)
  • Pass the interview conducted
  • Not blind/colourblind/deaf (without assistive device) or mute or physically disabled with impairments that may hinder practical work and learning sessions. Please refer to the Admission Guidelines for OKU Candidates.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR DIPLOMA IN WELDING TECHNOLOGY

Meeting the General Admission Requirements (Please refer to the general requirements above).

Have a Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) Level 3 in ONE of the following fields:

(a) H-024-3: Gas Metal Arc Welding Technician (Carbon Steel & Stainless Steel); or

(b) H-025-3: Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Technician (Carbon Steel & Stainless Steel & Aluminum); or

(c) MC-024-3:2012 Shielded Metal Arc Welding Process; or

(d) MC-025-3:2012 Gas Metal Arc Welding Process; or

(e) MC-026-3:2012 Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Process; or

(f) MC-027-3:2012 Flux-Cored Arc Welding Process.

To produce highly knowledgeable and skilled individuals in the field of Welding Technology and capable to be a catalyst to improve the quality of life.

To produce competitive and capable skilled workers who can apply supervisory, planning and welding maintenance skills that align with industry standards of quality.

 

DURATION OF STUDY : 18 MONTHS

TRAINING CONCEPT

The training method for the Diploma level in ILJTM is skills-based, with 60% dedicated to practical training and 40% to theoretical instruction.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

In ILP Perai, assessments are conducted continuously and these include Coursework, Quizzes, Assignments, Knowledge Assessments, Performance Assessments, Final Year Project and Final Assessments.

Coursework: 40% (Practical- 25% & Theory – 15%)

Final Examination: 40% (Practical- 25% & Theory – 15%)

Final Year Project: 20%
